BNY and Citadel Complete Tokenized Treasury Triparty Repo
A two-year Treasury settled on BNY's private ledger before being used as collateral for overnight financing.

BNY says it completed a triparty repo workflow with Citadel Securities using a tokenized US Treasury. Announced on October 13, 2026, the transaction connected a securities purchase with overnight financing; BNY did not specify the transaction date or size.
Citadel bought a two-year Treasury through BNY on Tradeweb. A tokenized representation was recorded on BNY's private ledger and settled within minutes, then served as collateral in an overnight repo in which BNY supplied cash. BNY's account describes a completed institutional transaction, not general access to a new trading venue.
A security becomes financing collateral
The distinction between owning a tokenized asset and financing against it is important. In a repo, securities are sold with an agreement to repurchase them later; economically, the arrangement resembles a collateralized loan. That description comes from the New York Fed, not from an assumption that a blockchain transfer is itself a loan.
Triparty arrangements add a clearing-bank role in facilitating settlement. The New York Fed's market overview identifies this infrastructure as a source of short-term dealer funding and support for fixed-income liquidity.
Here, the reported sequence makes collateral usability the relevant development. Recording ownership digitally is one step; accepting that representation in a financing workflow is another. That is an analytical distinction, not evidence that the arrangement lowered the borrowing rate, removed credit risk or eliminated every operational handoff.
Extended hours remain a separate plan
BNY also plans additional digital-cash and tokenized-deposit capabilities. It expects to extend traditional settlement hours into European and Asian trading periods next year. Those plans should not be read as features already delivered by this transaction.
The release does not establish unrestricted customer eligibility, transaction volumes or a generally available 24/7 repo market. Its private-ledger description also provides no basis for calling this a permissionless public-blockchain trade.
